The Canadian Health Promoting Universities and Colleges Network was initiated in the spring of 2016 by individuals from the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, and Simon Fraser University, who led the development of the Okanagan Charter and were involved in planning the 2015 International Conference on Health Promoting Universities and Colleges.

Our purpose is to engage higher education institutions to advance the health-promoting universities and colleges movement within Canada. Similar networks are active in other regions of the worldincluding the UK, New Zealand, Germany, and Iberoamerica. The establishment of a Canadian network is supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

A Committee has formed to build the Canadian Network, create awareness about and advance the Okanagan Charter, and catalyze action for the creation of healthy and sustainable campus communities. Committee membership includes representation from most provinces by individuals from diverse positions within higher education, embodying Charter principles for campus-wide and whole system approaches.
